Aromatherapy is well-known throughout the world as a holistic therapeutic natural practice that involves the use of essential oils for balancing and harmonizing the body, mind, and spirit, thus promoting a great change for everyday pleasure and well-being. This has been practiced for centuries with the notion that the aromatherapy oils can be effective in treating illness and disability, which is then supported by a number of successful studies.

On its most basic, the aromatherapy oils are highly concentrated and powerful. They are taken or extracted from plants, leaves, roots, flowers, twigs, buds, rhizomes, bark, heartwood, seeds, fruits, and resins. And, they are greatly found in special secretory glands or cells within the plant life.

The aromatic substances of the aromatherapy oils are essentially formed and stored in particular organs of certain plants, and these come as a by-product or maybe due to its metabolism. According to certain studies, the aromatherapy oil has its very own blueprint that is definitely distinct. It is the blending of these blueprints with the energy of the sun, air, soil, and water that gives each aromatherapy oil its own fragrance as well as beneficial healing qualities.

Similar species of plant can produce aromatherapy oil with varying healing properties, which greatly depend on whether the plant was grown in damp or dry earth, at low or high altitude, or even in cold and hot climates. However, the International Organization for Standardization has further claimed that the aromatherapy oils are products made by distillation with either steam or water or by way of mechanical processing of citrus rinds or even by dry distillation of natural materials. According to them, it is after the distillation that the aromatherapy oil is physically alienated from the water phase.

The aromatherapy oils, as opposed to the vegetable oils that are expressed from nuts and seeds, are not actually oily. Some of the aromatherapy oils are viscous, while there are others that are fairly solid and somewhat watery. Certain records have noted that there are generally 3000 varying aromatherapy oils worldwide with only about 300 typically employed. They are now considered as the most concentrated form of botanical, as the aromatherapy oils provide a concentrated dose of the nature's vast pharmacological active ingredients in just a single drop of aromatherapy oil. Certain studies conducted in this field of healing practice have actually found out that it generally takes at least one pound of any available, potential plant to produce one drop of aromatherapy oil. And, one hundred percent pure unadulterated aromatherapy oils are known by a notable range of substances that only the Mother Earth could generate.

Perhaps the oldest method of aromatherapy is in the form of candle burning and aromatherapy candle making. Nearly six thousand years ago, the ancient Chinese burned joss sticks made from aromatic herbs in temples and shrines to honor their gods and ancestors.

Aromatherapy is the branch of herbal medicine that uses essential oils derived from plant parts, such as flowers, branches, twigs, barks, roots, fruits, leaves, and even stalks. There are several ways to extract these essential oils but the commonest is through a process called distillation. After distillation, essential oils are formed. These are highly concentrated substances that have powerful therapeutic properties that can benefit the healthy and overall well-being.

Essential oils may be used as massage oils or as cleansers, added as key ingredients in various cosmetic products. This practice is again anchored on an ancient custom that dates back to the ancient Egyptian civilizations where herbs were used in baths to improve physical beauty. Many people also use essential oils in baths, allowing a few drops of the substance into the warm water. Carrier oils allow the skin to better absorb these oils so they are sometimes added as well.

Essential oils are also used in aromatherapy candle making. This process is called diffusion where instead of absorbing the therapeutic properties of essential oils through the skin, you absorb them by inhaling them into the lungs. With the number of people burning aromatherapy candles at home, there is great demand out there for aromatherapy candle making.

Below are some instructions that you will want to follow for aromatherapy candle making.

Materials for Aromatherapy Candle Making

Candle wax, preferably soy candle for a more natural and environment-friendly effect.
Candle dyes (optional) for a more interesting aromatherapy candle making result.
Candle wicking
Essential oils
Heavy pot for melting wax
A suitable mold for your candle. Either a long tube, hollow at the center, or a bowl. You can even use a cup. Make sure that your aromatherapy candle making molds are flexible so that it will be easier to release the hardened candle.

Aromatherapy Candle Making: Instructions

Place your required wax amount into the heavy pan and place it on the heat. Allow the pan to heat slowly until all the wax melts. Afterwards, add your dye. In aromatherapy candle making, it is important that you add the ingredients a small amount at a time. Then, dip the wick several times into the melted wax. Next, add a few drops of essential oils into the mixture, stirring gently. Finally, pour the mixture into the mold and wait for it to dry.

Increasing numbers of people are attempting to return to a lifestyle that is purely holistic and complete, recognizing the importance of combining the mind, body, and spirit in equal measures to achieve optimum health and well-being. Reputed to be very old, and literally used in almost all civilizations of the world, aromatherapy is one form of holistic healing that is easy to and flexible to be practiced in our daily lives.

Aromatherapy contains organic, natural, unadulterated aromatic extracts, called aromatic essential oils, which come from plant origins. These natural substances display a broad range of therapeutic effects and actions on the body. Many of these essential oils play an important role in our daily lives, each and every moment, and in all occasions. At least one daily consumable that is used by us contains one of these essentials, like many tooth pastes and mouth washes. There are even eatables like some baked goods that are made with essential oils. Aromatherapy, however, refers strictly to the use of essential oils and hydrosols for health purposes and body healing.

Aromatherapy is the art of using the fragrant essential oils derived from plants to treat ailments of the mind and body. The magnificent scent of these oils evokes a variety of different responses by stimulating the olfactory and other sensory organs, which are linked to the areas of the brain which control emotions. It means that these essential oils have a direct bearing on the human constitution, body and mind. A chain of chemical reactions, initiated by this invisible stimulation then takes place, effecting a physical or emotional change in the body.

Aromatherapy is an innovative way to improve the quality of life that incorporates all principles of body and mind. Aromatherapy has already become a part of our lives, although many of us have not associated the name with the actual experience. Each human being has an emotional response, both pleasant and unpleasant, some happy and others sad, to certain scents. So the idea behind aromatherapy is, initially, to find those scents and oils, unique but different for each individual, those evoke positive sensory feelings and emotions. The next step is to introduce those essentials into our daily life to enhance well-being. Natural scents and oils keep us connected to the earth, sparking memories and emotions. They also bring back forgotten memories, emotions and lost luster in our lives.

Pure essential oils are extracted from many parts of the plant (flower, leaf, resin, bark, root, twig, seed, berry, rind and rhizome) and the extracted oils are used to relax, replenish, balance and rejuvenate body, mind and spirit. Aromatherapy is both an art and a science that involves the basic constitution of our body. All these objectives are skillfully achieved by blending required parts of different oils and then creating a balmy complex that is used to create a heavenly experience.

How ever, the results of aromatherapy are very individual specific and vary from person to person. While experts display general agreement about the actions of certain oils, aromatherapy texts vary differently in their descriptions of the properties and characteristics of an essential oil. The basic fact is that no two persons in this world are influenced by the same aromatic oil in exactly the same way and manner. What is more, even the same person can be significantly affected differently by the same oil depending on surroundings, time or mood.

If you need to experience the real magic of these essential oils, you will have to use one of those applications in any part of daily life. Reactions to fragrances are highly individual and specific. Here is small guideline to help you try evaluating some aromas of essential oils:
As you inhale deeply an essential oil for the first time, try and describe the aroma:
* Is it sharp and stinging?
* Is it subtle and smooth
* Is it balanced and tuned?
* Is it light or heavy?
* Is it warming or cooling?
* Is it sweet, spicy, woody, floral, fruity, etc.?
These are some of the basic sensory feeling you can experience on inhaling aromatic oils. Now try and describe how you perceive the aroma:
* Do you like or dislike it?
* Do you associate the aroma with any of your previous personal experiences?
* What emotions do you have that are connected to these experiences? Is it possible to remember them?
* Does the aroma produce those emotions now? Is it repetitive?
* Does the aroma affect your awareness: does it rejuvenate, energize or relax?
Aromatherapy is a science that can not be comprehended so easily; the whole human race has tried to understand its undying mystery since time immemorial. How ever, its magical properties have always mesmerized us with a sense of awe and suspense.

The healing power of essential oils is the main attraction in aromatherapy. The name of science is actually quite misleading because contrary to what its name indicates, the focus is not the aroma but the essential oils themselves.

The most common form of aromatherapy is perhaps diffusion. It is the process where essential oils are dispersed into the air, allowing the aroma to fill a room or an area with natural fragrance. During diffusion, an aromatherapy diffuser leopard is often used.

Just as the forms of aromatherapy are widely diverse, the methods of diffusing oils into the air are also just as many and broad in range so that aromatherapy diffuser leopards often come in different shapes, sizes, and styles. From the simple to the elaborate, many different types of aromatherapy diffuser leopards exist just for the purpose of dispersing essential oils into the room.

There are three common types of aromatherapy diffuser leopard you can fashion right out of things you already have in your home. First is the tissue aromatherapy diffuser leopard. This is where you add a few drops of essential oils in some extra tissue you have and let it sit in a room. In time, the aroma from your homemade aromatherapy diffuser leopard will rise until the whole room is filled with it.

You can also employ steam when you make your aromatherapy diffuser leopard. Simply boil a few cups of water and pour it into a bowl. Then, add up to 10 drops of oil to the water and let the steam gently heat the oils, stimulating them to rise and diffuse into the air.

Yet another simple aromatherapy diffuser leopard is through the use of a candle. Light a candle and allow it to burn for about 5 minutes. Put it out afterwards and then place a drop or two of essential oil onto the melting wax. Light the candle again and wait for the aroma from the heating oils to fill your lungs and your surroundings.

In addition to homemade aromatherapy diffuser leopards, many aromatherapy vendors sell diffusers. These aromatherapy diffuser leopards can be anything from lamp rings to clay pots to candles. Incense sticks can also be considered as aromatherapy diffuser leopards although they really are a league in their own because unlike candles where you still have to add the oil, incense sticks are already steeped in oil so there's no need for you to add anymore.

Organic aromatherapy recipes have been used for centuries and its usage is very diverse and spread all over the world. Hundreds of recipes have been found and perfected over thousands of years. Aromatherapy makes use of essential oils to combat everyday maladies in our lives such as stress, depression, indigestion, menopause, nausea, immune deficiencies, fatigue and numerous others. The following aromatherapy recipes are for your aromatic information.

First things first! Always remember that essential oils are very potent and volatile liquids that can be very harmful if used carelessly. CAUTION: Never apply undiluted oil on the skin without use of carrier oil such as sweet almond oil, hazelnut oil, sunflower oil or grape seed oil. Massage is perhaps the most popular way to use essential oils. It combines the healing art of aromatherapy with the healing art of touch. Self-massage is just as effective as being massaged by another person and lack of a partner is no excuse for not trying these relaxing recipes. As a general rule, always use ten drops of total essential oils per mixture, and keep it around five for maximum effectiveness.

You can always concoct your own innovative recipe using many essential oils that available in the market. You don't really need a branded expensive aromatherapy product or go to an expensive aromatherapy spa and some wholesale aromatherapy vendors can be too expensive. Here are a few quick, instant and easy natural aromatherapy recipes that can be formulated at your home:
* Beat the depression with 3 revitalizing drops of orange essential oil and 2 drops of zesty ginger.
* Drive out insomnia with easeful drops of Roman chamomile, clary sage and bergamot oils.
* Reduce menstrual cramps with pacifying drops of peppermint, cypress and lavender oils.
* Soothe stress with calming drops of Roman chamomile, lavender and vetiver oils.
* Fight acne with toning lavender and antiseptic tea tree oil.
* Ease a grieving heart with oils of warm rose and sandalwood.
* Disinfect the kitchen sink with the citrus smell of lemon, lime and grapefruit oils.

Apart from these most common recipes, you can also prepare hundreds of them by using correct amounts of essential oils.

You may not realize just how important your feet are until they begin to hurt. Many of the jobs that people have today require standing for long periods of time and this can lead to pain in the feet. It is also important to wear proper shoes to make sure that your legs are supported and your weight is evenly distributed. Posture plays a vital role in ensuring that your feet can make it through the workday without pain. Keeping your shoulders back and your back straight can do wonders to keeping your feet free from pain.

If you suffer from frequent foot pain, try making little circles with your feet during the day. Sit down when you get a chance, and stretch your feet forward and backwards. It may also help to choose footpads that will adjust themselves to the natural contours of your feet. There are many insole cushions on the market that massage the pressure points of the foot when walking.

Don't neglect to take the time to purchase the right size shoe. You may need to have your feet measured by a professional shoe salesman who will advise you on your correct shoe size and help you choose the best shoe for your profession. Not all people need to wear the same shoes. Your shoe should be suited for the type of work you are involved in. Construction workers, nurses, and those who work in restaurants all stand on their feet for the majority of their jobs. However, they all require different shoes. By neglecting to wear the proper shoe can put your feet in serious risk of future trouble.

Corns, blisters, and ingrown toenails can all cause significant pain and hinder you from performing your job at your optimum level. By choosing the correct shoes and nourishing your feet you can save many days of pain and agony. It is also important to make sure that you trim your toenails the proper way to prevent ingrown nails. Ingrown toenails can become infected and that may lead to chronic infections that will require professional medical attention.

Athlete's foot is another condition that can cause serious discomfort to workers. Aromatherapy offers many benefits to those who have painful feet or suffer from Athlete's foot. By using natural remedies such as Tea Tree oil, you can treat Athlete's foot and provide soothing relief. You can apply Tea Tree oil directly to your foot with a cotton ball, or you can make a foot-soothing soak by adding 20 drops of Tea Tree oil, or Geranium oil to a bowl of hot water. Soak your feet for at least 25 minutes.

If your feet are very sore, you can make an Herbal Epsom Salt bath for your relief. A wonderful blend can be made by adding 4 drops of Peppermint oil and 4 drops of Eucalyptus oil to 1/2 cup of Epsom salts. Mix thoroughly then add to a foot tub of hot water. This is a therapeutic blend. If you feel that your skin is too sensitive to the natural oils, decrease the blend to two drops each.

Headaches are one of the most common of medical complaints. Most people experience headache pain at one time or another. Everyone, young and old, male and female, suffers from headaches from time to time. These may range from minor, nagging headaches to full-blown, incapacitating neurovascular migraines. Most headaches are not caused by serious medical conditions. The most common classifications of headache pain are tension, cluster, and migraine. Another disturbingly common type of headache is the rebound headache, which appears to be the result of taking prescription or non-prescription pain relievers daily or almost daily. The good news is that there are a growing number of natural alternatives to treat headache pain. Aromatherapy is one of the choices a growing number of people are turning to for effective relief of primary headache pain.

The powerful effects of your favorite essential oil seeps deep in to the nervous constitution to reduce the pain emanating from different lobes of brain. Head aches are known to originate out of many internal and external influences; deep strain inflicted in your mental constitution is known to be a major cause. Several aromatic oils have the capacity to prevent and/or reduce the throbbing pain caused by emotional stress and rigors.

The following aromatherapy recipes can also be used as a preventative measure, and can even help ease your pain. Once you've guessed what is triggering your migraines, prepare the appropriate recipe mixture by pouring the oil essences into a 10-ml bottle, and adding vegetable oil to fill. Make sure that you are mixing this concoction very well.

If the pain persists even after trying the suggested remedies above, you are suggested to visit your physician for further consultations.
Aromatherapy Blend #1 – Head aches due to negative emotions
3 drops Roman Chamomile
8 drops Lavender
Aromatherapy blend #2 – Head aches due to muscular tensions
4 drops Lavender
5 drops Peppermint
Massage the forehead, temples, neck and shoulders.

Aromatherapy blend #3 – Head aches due to nervous tensions
3 drops Roman Chamomile
3 drops Neroli
5 drops Marjoram
Massage the forehead, temples and solar plexus very gently. Breathe it in deeply and slowly. Pour 15 drops of this aromatic blend into the bathtub and soak for at least 15 minutes.
Useful Oils for Head Ache
Lavender and Sweet Marjoram will both help to relieve the intensity of pain, while Roman Chamomile is generally soothing and very relaxing. For sinus congestion related head aches, add Eucalyptus and/or Peppermint for their decongestant properties. Sweet Marjoram is particularly useful for headaches association with menstruation, while True Melissa or Rosemary can help to relieve a migraine.

Inhalation: This method can bring relief to headaches and migraines if used as soon as symptoms begin to appear. Add 2 drops each of Sweet Marjoram, Lavender, and Peppermint onto to a tissue; for a migraine, add 1 drop of True Melissa. Inhale deeply three times. Symptoms should subside with in minutes.

Application: To relieve a tension headache, moisten your forefinger with 2 drops of Lavender and rub gently over your temples, behind your ears, and across the back of your neck. Apply two times, if necessary.
Massage: Dilute 3 drops each of Lavender and Eucalyptus in 1/2 fl oz (15ml/21/2 tsp) of carrier oil and use the mix to massage your forehead and behind your ears, pausing to apply gentle pressure around the hollows on the outer corners of the eye bone.
Bath: Add 3 drops each of Sweet Marjoram, Roman Chamomile, and Lavender to a bath to help relive tension headaches.
Aromatherapy oils bring a refreshing change in treating head ache and migraine related pains; the biggest advantages of using these oils lie in its magical properties of healing power.

You often hear that a way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Whoever coined such phrase may be inclined with aromatherapy and knows how the smell of food can do wonders to affect its taste, or maybe not. But the fact remains that the aroma factors a lot to one's decision with regards to what they would want to eat.

For example, in fine dining restaurants, you will often be subjected with less serving. But you will also be treated with such a delightful aroma that will make you feel good and full. This way, even if you do not eat that much quantity as you would have in places like a fast food chain, you will still feel like you have eaten a lot.

This is the same essence that applies to the concept when used in healing processes. This is actually the main objective of the method. It is to utilize essential oils to affect people's feelings so as they can think straight and function better. When used in massage and other form of relaxation technique, the aroma coming from the oils goes into your limbic system. This is the part of the brain that commands your nervous system and stabilizes your emotions. This is also the reason why such method can create hormonal balance that can affect you on a positive light.

Back to Food

There are aromas that are being studied in this regard. It is said that the brain reacts differently and the appetite is affected by the kind of smell that one is subjected to before or after eating. It is said that when you smell orange before you do any work, it will be appealing. But it won't have the same effect after you are done with your tasks.

The smell of peppermint is alluring after you are done with an activity that involves thinking. But this is the opposite when the activity involves your physical strength. The smell of wood like the juniper berries is tempting after a hard day's work. During a stormy weather, it is alluring to be treated with smells like clover, mint, grape juice, red wine, peppermint, thyme, tee tree oil and orange peel. These are also true after you have just performed a mental task. After being subjected to a mental activity, your instinct is to look for comforting foods.

There are studies that suggested that men usually associate most type of food aromas with sex. For example, this is the first thing that comes to their mind after smelling of doughnuts. When the latter is used in combination with other kinds of food aroma, the libido of men towards the said activity becomes higher. Men are said to be turned on by the smell of buttered popcorn, pizza with cheese and strawberries.

This is the opposite case with women. Their urge for sex is not dependent on the smell of all kinds of food. They can get turned on through the combination of certain essences coming from food aroma. They get turned off by strong odors like the smell of a grilled barbeque and by men's odors like their strong colognes.

With such range that aromatherapy was able to affect, from medicinal benefits to its relation to food, it is expected that its popularity will increase more and more as time goes by. People only have to realize its purpose to be able to benefit in the process.
